Not having time to get to the gym doesn't have to be an excuse when you can get a great full body workout right in your CHR apartment. It also doesn't have to be intimidating to start a good fitness routine. Steve, of Nerd Fitness, put together a great circuit to get your foot in the right direction. As always, before starting an exercise routine you should consult your doctor.
Warming up is an essential part of your workout. It will lessen the risk of hurting yourself and gets the most out of your workout by getting your heart rate up. Tread lightly. You don't want to tire yourself out before you start. Here are some examples of warm up exercises:
- -Run in place
- -Jump rope (without the rope)
- -Jog up and down your stairs
Warm up should last about four to five minutes or the length of two songs on your workout playlist.
BEGINNER BODY WEIGHT CIRCUIT:
Steve designed this circuit to be done two times around, but if you have energy for three go for it! Make sure your core is engaged the entire time and complete each exercise without breaking in between if possible.
- (20) body weight squats
- (10) push ups
- (20) walking lunges
- (10) dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug)
- (1) 15 second plank
- (30) jumping jacks
Take four to five minutes to stretch. You've just worked all your muscles really hard, now it's time to relax them.
Repeat this workout 2-3 times a week, but never on consecutive days. Why? Steve says "You don't build muscle when you're exercising, you build muscle when you're resting."
