CHR's Charity for the month of September is The Brookline Teen Center. The Brookline Teen Center(BTC) opened a year ago, and it has been a magnet for Brookline, MA teens to socialize, learn and have fun ever since.
Labor Day is a big weekend for us here at CHR! Many of us celebrate the holiday with picnics, parties, and BBQs, but for those of us around the greater Boston, MA area, Labor Day is affectionately known as Boston Moving Day. Whether you are moving this weekend or enjoying the extra day off, we suggest making the time to have a picnic and take advantage of the end of summer.
Can you believe that September is right around the corner? We've been taking full advantage of the weather with some really fun resident events. The above photo was taken at Ridgecrest Village Apartments, in West Roxbury this month for a viewing of Disney's Frozen by the pool. If you haven't caught a movie outside yet, you must before it gets cooler! It's a great way to spend an evening during these dog days of summer.
We all want to be good, but sometimes buying organic isn’t always possible when you’re trying to stay within your budget. The Environmental Working Group has found that people who eat the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables consume an average of 10 pesticides a day and washing doesn’t always help. In the Greater Boston Area and in Providence, RI we have access to great farmer's market's and local farms.
CHR's charity for September is The National MS Society. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system (the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). It can cause blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue, problems with memory and concentration, paralysis, blindness and more. These problems may be permanent or may come and go.
It was an exciting June for us at CHR! We were recognized for our energy conservation efforts and proudly watched as our Assistant Property Manager of Norwood Gardens Apartments, Michael McHugh, received a national achievement award.
Here are some tricks to cool your apartment and conserve energy during the hot summer months:
Fans: Desktop and floor fans use dramatically less energy and are a great supplement to your A/C. You can raise your thermostat up to 9 degrees higher and feel the same amount of cool in the air if you use a fan and A/C together. Plus, you could save up 30% on your energy consumption!
