The Three G's: Greens, Giveaways, and Giving

Posted on: Friday, June 19, 2015 - 3:25pm

The Three G's: Greens, Giveaways, and Giving The CHR Horticulture department visited a few communities in the CHR portfolio over the last few weeks. They showed up bearing gifts in the form of herbs and flowers and all they asked for in exchange was a small donation to a selected charity. Of the seven hosted events,  a total of $1600 dollars was raised in charitable donations. Not only did our residents receive a plant to watch over and help grow, they also helped out their community at large. That has to feel good!

This was the inaugural year of the Resident Community Garden at Bay View Estates and it went off without a hitch! The residents both novice and expert at gardening were excited to have the opportunity to grow their own vegetables and cut-flowers. Everyone was given a few starter plants and a few residents quickly ran out to get more while others stared trading tips on growing tomatoes. Only one plot was available by the end of evening.
