Recap: Living Green in 2013Many big steps this past year for living green!

Last April, with the help of a $435,000 Energy Efficiency Incentive Program grant from National Grid, CHR completed a 2.2 million dollar project to remove and replace 89 boilers at Hancock Village Apartments, in Brookline MA. This reduced water consumption by 20% and will save 130,000 cubic feet of natural gas per year while producing hot water more efficiently. To read more about how far CHR has come in it's green endeavors, read our press release from last April.

There were many fun and educational events for our residents in 2013 as well. Village Green Apartments in Plainville, MA hosted a green costume swap for Halloween. Instead of wearing a costume once and throwing it away, residents were encouraged to bring in old costumes and swap with other residents. To see all the resident events from 2013, check our our Live Green: Events and Awareness page.

Green in 2013 WinnerLast, but not least, the CHR Green Team challenged all CHR employees to be Green in 2013. Employees were challenged to a green task every month. If the task was completed, that employee was entered into a monthly raffle for a $10 gift card to a local coffee shop or organic market. CHR Administrative Assistant, Angie, won the grand prize of $200 in cash for successfully completing all 12 tasks including the April Earth Day Clean up with the Charles River Watershed Association pictured above.

We have exciting ideas planned for 2014! What kind of green events or amenities would you like to see at your apartment community?
