Ed Zuker Honored with 2020 Housing Champion Award

Metro Housing Boston, a non-profit organization that provides services that lead families and individuals to housing stability, economic security, and an improved quality of life, recently honored Ed Zuker, Founder and CEO of Chestnut Hill Realty, as their 2020 Housing Champion. The award was presented at the Champions of Housing gala on November 4, a live virtual Zoom event, that was well attended by a who’s who of real estate executives, community leaders and housing advocates. Ed was feted by friends, associates and colleagues including Richard J Henken, President and CEO of The Schochet Companies, and Jerome L. Rappaport, Jr., CEO of New Boston Fund, who presented the Housing Champion award to Ed.“Eddie is a champion of just about everything he touches. Whatever the goal, whatever the task, Ed brings his unique energy, excitement, commitment and innovation to every encounter. Working with him, especially on a cause about which he is passionate, is a transformative experience. It makes us all want to do better, and to be better,” said Mr. Henken.  He continued, “Working with Eddie for many years on the B’nai B’rith Housing Development (BBH) committee, which he chairs. In his role, he advocates tirelessly for the creation of new affordable housing not only in Boston, but in underserved suburban communities. Under Eddie’s leadership, BBH was able to complete a successful tax credit development in Sudbury, phase two of which is about to lease up.”Mr. Rappaport remarked, “Ed Zuker taught me business is not about how much money you make for yourself. It’s what you do for others, and how you give back to the community. Ed is always giving back and spearheading fundraising efforts for his neighboring communities and communities of color. Ed was instrumental in the renovation of the La Grange field in West Roxbury, and he led the building committees of the West Roxbury Community Center and the Urban League of Easter Massachusetts’ headquarters in Nubian Square. He has also fought to protect the stable apartment occupancy for senior citizen and long-term renters.”This year the COVID-19 pandemic is having a widespread and unprecedented impact on economic and housing stability in our communities.
